(June 5, 2017) — The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is the Alamo City’s summer camps destination. Throughout the summer, UTSA will offer more than 60 camps in science, engineering, architecture, sports, music, writing, language, culture and more for kids, teens and young adults.
Campers will develop new skills or strengthen existing ones while experiencing what it’s like to be on a college campus. Campers will work on their athletic skills, build robots, explore archaeological techniques, develop musicianship and even learn Chinese and Japanese languages.
This week, UTSA is offering the following camps:
Summer Career Academy in Architecture and Interior Design
Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Downtown Campus
This two-week camp introduces high school and college students and adults to the careers and education of architects and interior designers. Campers will gain hands-on insight from UTSA’s top-tier faculty and find out if interior design or architecture are right for them.
iTEC Camps
Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Main and Downtown Campuses
Campers will explore the fields of science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on activities. This week, campers in kindergarten through 2nd grade will study forensics and space science. Third through 5th grade campers will learn about chemistry and robotics. Campers in 6th through 8th grade will delve into Sphero challenges. Ninth through 12th graders will build up their technology, math and engineering skills in a robotics class.
Criminal Justice Summer Camp
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Downtown Campus
This camp is designed for curious minds who are always the first to solve the mystery while watching crime shows. High school juniors and seniors will investigate mock crime scenes, examine fingerprints and tour local law enforcement facilities.
Performing Arts Camp
Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., Buena Vista Theater, Downtown Campus
This intensive workshop style camp is for students in 3rd through 8th grade interested in the performing arts, both onstage and behind the scenes. Instructors are all working professionals and college students in the field. Students will receive instruction in acting, voice, dance, theatre history, music theory, costuming, stage properties and more.
Football Camp
Monday, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Main Campus
Campers in 9th grade through age 24 can join the UTSA football coaching staff and members of the Roadrunner football team and test their gridiron skills during the UTSA Adidas 3-Stripe Challenge.
Men’s Basketball Camp
Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Convocation Center, Main Campus
This camp focuses on fundamentals of the game and is designed to be a fun learning experience for boys entering 1st through 9th grades. This camp features great teaching from UTSA players and coaches as well as daily competitions and games. Little Roadrunners will enjoy a half-day camp on June 8 designed especially for boys and girls 4 to 7-years-old.
UTSA Soccer Academy
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Park West Athletics Complex
The UTSA Soccer coaching staff and members of the UTSA Soccer team host two camps this week for boys and girls from novice to advanced level. The Summer Youth Camp is designed for boys and girls in 1st through 8th grades. Players in 5th through 8th grade can work on their skills at the Junior Elite Camp.
