(Aug. 21, 2017) — Today, more than 8,000 freshman and transfer students, the largest new student enrollment ever at UTSA, began their Roadrunner journey when they came together for Convocation, the official start of their college careers.
At Convocation, incoming students heard from UTSA President Taylor Eighmy for the first time. Dr. Eighmy officially begins his term as UTSA’s sixth president on September 1.
They also heard from other university and student leaders such as Student Government Association President Marcus Thomas, who shared what it means to be a UTSA Roadrunner. Included in the ceremony were opportunities to practice the Roadrunner Creed, UTSA Fight Song and UTSA Alma Mater.
Following Convocation, students took part in Explore Your Major, an engaging opportunity to discover what their college has to offer and to become better acquainted with the major they have chosen. The location for each college’s Explore Your Major can be found here.
Next, new ‘Runners can attend the Student Success Series, an addition to Roadrunner Days this year. The information sessions address common questions first-year students have during their transition to university life. Click here for topics, times and locations.
Interested in joining a fraternity or sorority? The New Member Information Session is where students will go to learn about how to get involved, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the University Center Retama Auditorium (UC 2.02.02).
And what better way to capture this momentous day than with a group class photo? The entire freshman class will meet at the Recreation Field Complex at 7:30 p.m. for the official Class of 2021 picture.
Before students head off to bed before the first day of class, they will make memories at the Midnight Light. One of the most popular Roadrunner Days events, students will pack the UTSA Main Campus entrance at 11:30 p.m. They’ll join The Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band (SOSA), fellow students, and faculty and staff as UTSA lights the Monument at the stroke of midnight to mark the start of a new academic year.
