(Aug. 18, 2017) — What’s it like to live on campus at UTSA? More than 4,000 students are about to find out. This weekend, ‘Runners from all around the world are making their way to UTSA to unload the comforts of home for the annual Residence Hall Move-In.
About 2,300 are expected to move into one of UTSA’s three residence halls—Chaparral Village, Laurel Village or Carlos and Malú Alvarez Hall. The rest will live in either Chisholm Hall or University Oaks, which are located on the Main Campus and managed independently.
Each residence hall provides students with a living situation that suits their needs as they take their academic journeys. Students might prefer a more traditional dormitory living experience, or be a part of Alvarez Hall’s special interest housing program, which offers unique housing opportunities by grouping together students with common interests. They might favor Chaparral Village and Laurel Village’s apartment-style units, and their neighborhood centers (which include laundry facilities, study rooms, computer labs, full-sized kitchens and recreational/programming areas) located within each complex.
Whatever a ‘Runner’s preference, UTSA Housing and Residence Life, which manages UTSA residence facilities, has worked tirelessly to prepare each hall for the return of their residents. New and returning residents can expect top-tier living facilities with fully trained staff and resident assistants ready to help them have an excellent year.
To help make the move-in process go as smoothly as possible this weekend, hundreds of UTSA student, staff and faculty volunteers will be on hand to help carry furniture, provide directions and other on-site assistance.
Additionally, UTSA Housing and Residence Life is encouraging the use of the free Guidebook app (available for download here) to help residents navigate move-in weekend when they arrive on campus.
New residents can share photos of their move-in experiences with the UTSA community by tagging @UTSA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and by using #UTSA and #UTSARRDays, which is also being used for the rest of the Roadrunner Days events this week.
UTSA Residence Hall Move-In is the first event of UTSA Roadrunner Days, a seven-day celebration that kicks off of the new academic year for the UTSA community. The UTSA celebration welcomes students to the university and gives them the opportunity to take part in time-honored UTSA traditions.
Later today, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., UTSA will host a reception for transfer students at the Main Building Ground Floor Lobby.
Then, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., UTSA Admissions is hosting the Welcome Back Reception at the University Center Paseo for students and their families. The event will feature a free photo booth, food and refreshments, a DJ and a live performance by the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band.
