(April 30, 2018) — Former UTSA quarterback Dalton Sturm has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent and will report to the team’s rookie mini-camp on May 11-13, the franchise announced today.
Sturm is one of 18 undrafted rookie free agents announced Monday by the Cowboys, the current team of former UTSA defensive lineman Brian Price.
A Goliad High School product, Sturm played in 35 games and drew 31 starts during his four-year career with the Roadrunners. He completed 482-of-811 passes for 5,768 yards and a UTSA-record 49 touchdowns and also rushed for 1,227 yards — a school record for a QB — and seven TDs on 360 carries.
Sturm, who was named Offensive MVP of the College Gridiron Showcase in January, threw for 2,185 yards and 15 touchdowns on 185-of-297 passing and had a passing efficiency rating of 137.4 as a senior. The former walk-on who earned a scholarship prior to the 2016 season set UTSA single-game records with four passing TDs, an 86.4 completion percentage (19-of-22) and a 257.9 passing efficiency rating against Southern and with 367 passing yards and 395 total yards of offense against Southern Miss in 2017.
The 6-2, 205-pound signal caller also set school records for career passing efficiency (134.7) and single-season passing TDs with 20 in 2016. Sturm matched the single-game passing TD standard of four in 2015 vs. Louisiana Tech and again versus Southern in 2017, and he completed four of the five longest pass plays in school annals.
