(May 11, 2018) — Faculty and staff from colleges and universities across San Antonio will gain new insight into professional development and networking skills at “Knowledge is Forever,” the 10th annual UTSA Student Affairs Conference. The UTSA Student Affairs Staff Development Team hosts the event. It is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23 at the H-E-B Student Union Ballroom (HSU 1.104) on the UTSA Main Campus.
“The UTSA Student Affairs Conference gives us one day a year to bring people together to think about the challenges we face, learn from one another and figure out what the future holds,” said Sam Gonzales, UTSA Vice President for Student Affairs. “It provides an opportunity for thoughtful discussions and networking among different departments and institutions in the community.”
Jonathan P. Higgins, curriculum educator for Campus Pride and Lambda Literary writing fellow, will deliver the keynote address: “Change: Letting Go of the Old and Embracing the New.”
Following the keynote address, attendees will participate in information sessions covering a variety of topics, including “Access and Success, Disability Awareness for Student Affairs,” “Dreamer 101 Training” and “Improve Both Your Mental and Physical Health by Dancing.” The conference will conclude with the Student Affairs award ceremony.
Each year, the conference brings in attendees from various departments of UTSA and institutions from across the San Antonio area, including Trinity University, St. Mary’s University, Texas State University and UT Health San Antonio.
A pre-conference meeting will be hosted by Beaks Up, Speak Up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 in the Student Union Mesquite Room (SU 2.01.24). Attendees will participate in an interactive crisis response and suicide prevention training session, and a bystander intervention workshop. Pre-registration is required.
