(June 19, 2018) — The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is conducting a national search for the university’s first Vice President for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE).
As a member of UTSA’s senior leadership team, the VPIE will work closely with campus stakeholders to develop practices that contribute toward establishing a campus climate of diversity, equity and inclusion.
“This individual will serve as a leadership anchor, helping us to shape policies, set goals and provide strategic direction for the journey toward improving our campus climate for underrepresented groups,” said President Taylor Eighmy in a message to the campus community last spring. “I expect that our Vice President for Inclusive Excellence will work broadly with all those involved in efforts relating to diversity and inclusion on our campus, cultivating a spirit of collaboration.”
The decision to create the new vice presidential position was driven by input from last fall’s faculty/staff diversity survey, as well as feedback received during President Eighmy’s visits with various faculty, staff and student groups over the course of the last academic year.
Interim Vice President for Student Success Rhonda M. Gonzales will lead the VPIE search committee, which includes a broad representation of faculty, staff and students from across the university.
Diversified Search, an executive search firm with deep experience recruiting higher education chief diversity officers, will assist the search committee in their work to identify high-caliber candidates. A consultant from Diversified Search visited campus last week to gather input from UTSA constituency groups regarding the position.
The VPIE is expected to be appointed by September 30, 2018.
