(July 9, 2018) – UTSA Roadrunners Lacee Barnes and Gary Haasbroek will represent their respective nations at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, on Tuesday, July 10 through Sunday, July 15.

Barnes, a native of the Cayman Islands, will compete in the discus throw. Barnes will enter the ring as one of 30 competitors from 22 countries. She owns a personal-best mark of 49.81m, which she set earlier this season at the Flow CARIFTA Games in Nassau, The Bahamas. Barnes, a rising sophomore, set her collegiate best mark of 49.03m at the Conference USA Championships to place sixth in the event.

Haasbroek, a member of the Roadrunners’ 2018 signing class, will represent his native Australia in both the decathlon and the 4x400m relay. Haasbroek is one of 15 athletes, representing 10 nations, to enter the U20 decathlon, while his 4x400m relay team will compete against 20 other countries. Haasbroek holds a U20 decathlon personal-best of 7,254 points.
