(Sept. 25, 2018) — UTSA’s award winning Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) detachment, consisting of more than 200 Roadrunner cadets, are running the road, not only to stay fit, but to bring recognition and honor to a very important cause—remembering those who fought for our freedom and are still fighting for our freedom today.

During the month of September, UTSA’s AFROTC detachment has participated in the Air Force Marathon in Dayton Ohio, completed a detachment-wide Warrior Run around the UTSA campus in the early morning hours and are currently inviting everyone in the UTSA community to join them for another run to bring recognition to Prisoners of War (POW) and those Missing in Action (MIA).

“Our officer candidates are not only developing themselves professionally, but they are determined to make a positive impact by serving our UTSA community and honoring our military veterans throughout the country and here in Military City U.S.A.,”  said Captain Anthony Guajardo, UTSA assistant professor of aerospace studies.

The AFROTC detachment will be hosting an open event for the entire UTSA student, faculty, and staff population. The next POW/MIA run is a 24-hour run and will take place beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 27 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept 28 on the UTSA recreation track on Main Campus.

Participants are allowed to join at any time and are encouraged to run for as long, or short, as they want. Rain or shine, UTSA cadets will carry the POW/MIA flag and run around the track the entire 24 hours.
