(Feb. 13, 2019) — Led by a trio of top-10 individual finishes, the UTSA women’s golf team won the team title at the Texas State Invitational this week at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 71/6,059 yards) in Kyle.
Behind runner-up Julie Houston and Madison Kidd and Ana Gonzalez, who placed fourth and seventh, respectively, the Roadrunners registered a school-record 854 to capture the team title by 20 strokes ahead of Kansas State.
UTSA entered the final round with a one-shot lead ahead of Texas State and carded its second straight 1-over-par 285 to run away from the field and win its third team title in less than one year and 11th crown overall.
UTSA’s 854 marks the lowest 54-hole scorecard in program annals and it is tied for the fourth-best total versus par. The Roadrunners were followed by Kansas State (874), Tulsa (875), Houston Baptist (879) and Texas State (880) in the top five of the 16-team field.

Meanwhile, Houston carded a career-best, 5-under-par 208 to finish second, the 12th top-10 showing of her career. The senior from Allen posted a 2-under 69 in the final round behind four birdies, including three as part of a 2-under 33 on the front nine. Buoyed by a team-high 11 birdies for the event, she finished just one stroke behind medalist Hannah Alberto of Sam Houston State.
Houston, the 2018 Conference USA individual champion, broke 70 in each of the final two rounds and extended her school record of par-or-better scorecards to 30. Additionally, Houston’s 208 ranks third both overall and versus par in UTSA history.
Kidd matched Houston with a career-best 69 on Tuesday on the strength of a trio of birdies to vault into sole possession of fourth place, a UTSA-best finish for the junior. After opening with a 71-72-143 on Monday, she finished at 1-under 212, also a career-best 54-hole total, en route to her third top 10 as a Roadrunner.
Gonzalez tied for seventh place with a 2-over 215 for her fifth career top 10. The sophomore from Monterrey, Mexico, posted rounds of 70, 71 and 74 and wrote down seven birdies for the tournament.
Katia Mexsen tied for 23rd with a 221 (72-74-75) and Brooke Nolte finished in a tie for 31st with a 224 (76-75-73) to round out the Roadrunners’ lineup.
The Roadrunners will return to action Feb. 25-26 when they travel to The Woodlands, Texas, for The Dickson.
