(March 25, 2019) — The UTSA Alumni Association has partnered with VITA—the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program—to help the UTSA community meet the looming tax filing deadline. IRS-certified volunteers will provide free, basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing. VITA offers free tax help to people who make $55,000 or less, as well as persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
The on-campus assistance sessions are open to everyone who qualifies, including students, faculty, staff and alumni.
There are several session opportunities to take advantage of this free service:
Tuesday, April 2, 5 – 8 p.m.
Katz Alumni Center, Bauerle Road Garage, Main Campus
Thursday, April 4, 5 – 8 p.m.
Katz Alumni Center, Bauerle Road Garage, Main Campus
Friday, April 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Student Union, Willow Room (SU 2.02.12), Main Campus
Participants need to bring the follow documents to the session:
- Proof of Identification—Drivers License or Photo D.
- Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for you, your spouse and dependents
- Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
- Current year’s tax package if you received one
- Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099-INT)
- A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available
- Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit
- Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider’s tax identifying number (the provider’s Social Security Number or the provider’s business Employer Identification Number)
- To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms
- Bring Form 1095-A if you have purchased health insurance through the Obamacare
- If eligible to receive education credits, the school’s taxpayer identification number is needed
