(April 11, 2019) – The UTSA Main Campus transforms into a vibrant array of food, flowers and fun on Friday for Fiesta UTSA, the university’s oldest and largest Fiesta celebration. The UTSA and San Antonio communities are invited to join in the festivities and enjoy food, drink, music and, of course, lots of cascarones. The free, family-friendly event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 12 in the Sombrilla Plaza on the Main Campus. The campus tradition, which began in 1978, continues to grow each year.
“This is going to be our largest event to date, with over a hundred booths,” said Analicia Gonzales, associate director of UTSA student activities. “There will be a great variety of food and beverages for people to partake in.”
Fiesta UTSA carries special significance this year with the theme “Happy Birthday to UTSA!” One of the booth will be selling Fiesta UTSA medals and t-shirts, both of which feature Rowdy the Roadrunner with a birthday cake.
The e7 Band returns to play everyone’s favorite hits. Nuevo Estilo Mariachi will also perform. Fiesta royalty will stop by to join in the fun at 1:05 p.m.

The purpose of Fiesta UTSA is to support the students and mission of the university. Students from numerous student groups will be selling food and drinks to raise money for their organizations. Some booths will be accepting credit cards, while others will be cash-only. Students from the College of Business will be operating booths as an experiential learning project. The event is also organized by students through Roadrunner Productions.
“The event is a great opportunity for the whole community to experience UTSA,” adds Gonzales. “This is a chance for everyone to come celebrate in the heart of campus.”
