(June 10, 2019) — The UTSA Main Campus will be buzzing with energy as thousands of new students are welcomed into the Roadrunner family during Orientation this summer. Throughout June and July, Freshman Orientation will occur twice a week over two-day sessions; the first on Monday and Tuesday and the second on Tuesday and Wednesday. Orientation continues weekly through July 17.
Orientation is an important milestone in each student’s journey and is one of the last steps they’ll need to complete to become Rowdy Ready for the fall. It’s a unique experience that lets incoming students get a preview of what their first year at UTSA will be like.

Freshmen who sign up for an earlier session will become Rowdy Ready sooner and have a better course selection to choose from when they register for fall classes at Orientation. After these earlier sessions have been filled, then sign up for online Orientation sessions will be made available. Transfer students have the option of signing up for online or in-person Orientation. Any student veteran (freshman or transfer) can participate in either online or an in-person Veteran specific Orientation in June.
At the in-person Orientation, new students will go on campus tours, meet other incoming students, register for courses, meet with their academic advisor, and participate in a Block Party and Roadrunner Traditions Walk. Roadrunner families can also attend concurrent programs to help them learn more about UTSA and how to support their student in their new journey.
New to Orientation this year is Veteran and Military Student Orientation, a one-day program that is specifically designed for the unique needs of student veterans. Throughout this experience, student veterans will register for courses, meet with their academic advisor, receive guidance on the benefits certification process, and have the option of taking a tour of the campus that highlights the veteran and military student services available at UTSA.
Orientation not only provides valuable information to new students, but it also nourishes a strong sense of belonging and acceptance within the Roadrunner community.
“Not only did Orientation last summer provide me with a great introduction to college life, but it was also the place where I met many amazing people and developed lasting relationships,” said George Tharakan a sophomore majoring in cybersecurity.
At Orientation, every Roadrunner earns their wings and receives an orange feather to symbolize how, despite coming from many different backgrounds, they are all birds of a feather and are welcome at UTSA. All different. All Roadrunners. Students who take Orientation online will receive their feather when they pick up their Orientation t-shirt and backpack from the Orientation and Family Programs Office, located on the Main Campus at MS 2.01.10.
