(July 5, 2019) – Eugene Ripps, an accounting major from China Grove, made history May 16 as the first student awarded a bachelor’s degree from UTSA.

Ripps graduated with the class to have its first commencement ceremonies held in the university’s new Convocation Center [in 1976], where UTSA awarded 46 bachelor’s degrees and 184 master’s degrees. It was also the first ceremonies to be held at the end of a spring semester.
