(Sept. 13, 2019) — The Student Government Association at UTSA is planning an active year of student engagement and advocacy as its members prepare to hold elections for all vacant senator positions within the SGA General Assembly.

John “Jack” Rust, a senior political science major from The Woodlands, was elected SGA president for the 2019-2020 academic year. He served the past year as SGA business affairs chair.

“This year, I want to reengage the student body with their student government and maximize the number of elected representatives in office,” Rust said. “We will produce initiatives that will be action-oriented, creating timelines for our individual developments so that progress can be tracked and evaluated.”

Carlo Garcia is vice president. Garcia is a senior communications major from San Antonio and served as assistant executive director during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Students elected Joshua Rebel, a senior political science major from Seoul, South Korea, as treasurer and Megan Holloway, a senior finance major from Houston, as secretary. Claudeth Garcia, a junior cybersecurity and information systems major from Monterey, Mexico, was elected as speaker of the senate.

Elections for Freshman Senator and all other available positions within the General Assembly will be held via RowdyLink from noon on Sept. 13 to 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The results of the election will be announced outside of the SGA office (HSU 1.214) at 3 p.m. on Sept. 19. The SGA will then meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Denman Ballroom (SU 2.01.28) inside the Student Union.
