Regents approve UTSA’s Campus Master Plan

Nov. 15, 2019 — The University of Texas System Board of Regents has approved the Campus Master Plan, which will serve as a guiding framework for UTSA’s development over the next decade.

The plan calls for nearly 5.3 million gross square feet of new space to support the university’s vision of becoming a model for student success, a great research enterprise and an exemplar for strategic growth and innovative excellence.

Over the next 10 years UTSA expects to make significant investments in its Main and Downtown Campus infrastructure as it boosts its enrollment to 45,000 students, develops new degree programs and extended education initiatives, adds additional student success resources and expands the depth and breadth of its research enterprise.

“The UTSA Campus Master Plan articulates a roadmap to guide the university’s future physical development, investment and growth to advance academic excellence for the success of our diverse students and to promote the socioeconomic vibrancy of our communities through the provision of access and knowledge development,” said UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. “The plan draws from the university’s and community’s history and legacy, leverages local assets and projects a forward-looking framework for UTSA’s future.” 

UTSA Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Kimberly Andrews Espy led a task force of students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders through the master planning process, which began in 2018. In collaboration with Page, a campus planning consultant, the university engaged numerous community stakeholder groups at meetings, workshops and public forums.
