CLASS OF 2020

DECEMBER 9, 2020 — Victory celebrations in San Antonio always include honking car horns, and that tradition carries over to UTSA. The university’s graduating students in San Antonio will participate in a nostalgic Commencement Drive around the Main Campus on Friday, December 11.

This tradition, launched earlier this year, will begin at the Brackenridge (BK 5) parking lot adjacent to the Child Development Center. Vehicles may begin gathering at 4 p.m. The parade around campus begins at 4:30 p.m. Graduating students are encouraged to bring someone along to drive so that they may wave and take photos on the drive.

To make this a safe experience for everyone, individuals will remain in their vehicles and limit the number of cars participating to one car per graduate. All cars must begin at the parade starting point and stay in line as the drive goes through campus. The parade will be led by the UTSA Police Department, and individuals are asked to join the parade only from the official starting point and adhere to motor vehicle guidelines for the number of passengers.

Additionally, UTSA faculty and staff are encouraged to don their face coverings and come out and line the parade route to cheer on graduating students.

Individuals not in San Antonio may also join the celebration. They are encouraged to honk their horns at 4:30 p.m. wherever they are and share videos of the occasion on social media using #UTSAGrad20. Some individuals may be featured on UTSA channels.
