DECEMBER 1, 2020 — With the official Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement coming up for the new graduating class, some UTSA groups are getting a head start and celebrating early.
Some student organizations and UTSA colleges regularly hold pre-graduation events for their graduating students. While they are being held virtually, it won’t stop all Roadrunners from being recognized for their accomplishments.
Here is a list of the events that are being observed:
Ujima
Thursday, December 3 at 5 p.m., Zoom
Ujima stands for collective work and responsibility. The ceremony recognizes students’ dedication and persistence to get to graduation. The Black Student Leadership Council hosts this celebration to uplift students as they prepare to embark on a new journey.
Student-Athlete Virtual Celebration
Sunday, December 6 at 1 p.m., UTSA Athletics Facebook Live
This virtual event is a celebration recognizing all student-athletes and cheerleaders graduating in December 2020. The stream will feature messages from administration and head coaches in addition to honoring each individual.
Fall 2020 New Teacher Induction Ceremony
Thursday, December 10 at 9:30 a.m., Youtube
This special event, hosted by the College of Education and Human Development, celebrates the end of clinical teaching for the semester and welcomes new teachers into the profession.
Virtual Ring Ceremony
Thursday, December 10 at 6 p.m., TBD
Students who have reached their junior year and alumni can receive their official UTSA ring. This year’s ceremony will be held virtually for current ring recipients who are invited and requested to have their ring included in this ceremony. During the event, the history of the UTSA rings and how they spend the night in the Alamo will be discussed. Those who miss out on this opportunity can bring their ring in the future to participate in future ring ceremonies.
Commencement Drive
Friday, December 11, 4:30 p.m., Main Campus, starting in Brackenridge Parking Lot (BK5)
Victory celebrations in San Antonio always include honking car horns, and we are carrying that tradition over to UTSA. Graduates are encouraged to bring someone along to drive, so they can wave and take photos from their vehicle. To ensure safety, everyone is encouraged remain in their vehicles and limit their celebration to one car per graduate. Cars will start lining up at 4 p.m. All cars must begin at the parade starting point and stay in line as the drive goes through campus.
