FEBRUARY 17, 2021 — The last few days have been tremendously challenging for all of us as we deal with unprecedented freezing conditions and prolonged power outages. Everyone is doing their best to get through this and, as a university, we want to do our part to assist the Roadrunner community however we can.
With forecasters predicting even more freezing precipitation tonight and into tomorrow morning, as well as the likelihood of ongoing power disruptions for the next few days, UTSA will open two locations on the Main Campus to serve as daytime warming stations.
UTSA students, faculty and staff in need of a temporary space to warm up, recharge their phones or access wi-fi service may use the warming stations in the JPL Library and on the ground floor of the Main Building. Masking and social distancing will be required. Hours of availability are:
- Wednesday, February 17, noon to 10 p.m.
- Thursday, February 18, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Friday, February 19, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Due to our current campus closure and the need to maintain COVID social distancing measures, the university will not be able to provide overnight use at these two warming stations.
Any open parking space on campus except those reserved for the disabled may be used when accessing the warming stations. Parking garages are also open.
Weather forecasts indicate a likelihood of icy road conditions tonight and tomorrow morning and perhaps again over Thursday night into Friday morning. Those wishing to access the warming stations should use their best independent judgment when deciding whether it is safe to travel to campus.
The City of San Antonio has established a warming station at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center; this is available to UTSA community members who are situated more closely to downtown. Call 3-1-1 for information or assistance.
