JUNE 16, 2021 — UTSA has won a Circle of Excellence Gold award for marketing efforts to promote the university’s 2020 Hispanic Heritage Month commemorations. The national award was announced last week by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Held mid-September through mid-October, UTSA’s Hispanic Heritage Month featured a large slate of distinctive programs around significant themes in Latino culture.

A committee of faculty, staff and students collaborated on the effort, selecting the theme Voces de Resistencia (Visions of Resilience) to promote stories of strength and perseverance.

“We appreciated the excellent and thoughtful work. … It was comprehensive, audience-focused, with strong engagement.”

The month-long commemoration was entirely virtual, including keynote presentations from Hispanic leaders and luminaries, as well as book clubs, symposia and panel discussions. Marketing campaign components included graphic design, web development, video production and paid advertising support to promote the events.

CASE is a global nonprofit serving educational institutions and advancement professionals in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas. Each year the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards recognize hundreds of institutions whose talented staff members advanced their institutions last year through innovative, inspiring, and creative ideas.

“We appreciated the excellent and thoughtful work,” said this year’s CASE judges regarding UTSA’s entry. “The calendar and the value of the content that was offered during this month-long, comprehensive event campaign to celebrate Hispanic Month was beautifully reinforced through the brand identity. It was comprehensive, audience-focused, with strong engagement.”

UTSA’s submission was one of nearly 3,000 global entries in the competition.
