SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 — Editor’s Note: This story is the third in a four-part series highlighting the new Academic Success District. Part one introduced the Academic Success District and part two unveiled upgraded classrooms. Part four will summarize the key components of the Academic Success District.
The Academic Success District (ASD) has unveiled several new flexible and collaborative workspaces outside the Flawn Sciences Building and the Student Union. The Outdoor Learning Environments (OLÉ) provide an informal way for Roadrunners to meet.
When students, faculty or staff reserve an Outdoor Learning Environment location, they can reconfigure the modular furniture to accommodate their needs. Multiple power outlets, AirRowdy and Bluetooth-enabled audio and visual equipment allow those in the Outdoor Learning Environments to connect their devices in each space.
To reserve one of the Outdoor Learning Environment spaces, visit the Academic Success District OLÉ webpage. Alternatively, Roadrunners will find a sign with a QR Code outside each location. They can take a photo with their smart phones or devices and be connected to instructions about how to reserve the space.
In total, the pilot program for the Outdoor Learning Environment includes five spaces: two outside the Flawn Sciences building and three outside the Student Union. The Flawn Sciences building locations will be ready for use starting the week of September 27, 2021. The Student Union spaces will open later in the fall semester.
The Academic Success District, an academic initiative developed in 2020, aligns and consolidates advising offices, mentoring programs and other learning hubs on Main Campus near the Sombrilla Plaza. Throughout the ASD, Roadrunners will find classrooms and collaborative spaces that integrate digital and in-person learning technology and resources that propel UTSA’s focus on providing world-class education experiences and new depths of scholarly engagement.
