NOVEMBER 22, 2021 — The Roadrunner community gave their time to assemble 350 bags containing Thanksgiving food staples to benefit UTSA students. Known as “Thanksgiving in a Bag,” this project normally takes hours to complete. This year, it only took about an hour to assemble the bags, thanks to the love and speed of fellow university volunteers.
On site to lend a helping hand were members of UTSA’s football team: Alex Wyant, offensive lineman and junior majoring in multidisciplinary studies; and Kaedric Cobbs, running back and sophomore majoring in finance.
The Volunteer Organization Involving Community, Education and Service—better known as VOICES—at UTSA implements programs and projects throughout the school year to help introduce the UTSA community to a variety of meaningful volunteer experiences. VOICES promoted Thanksgiving in a Bag to recruit students to help restock items as volunteers filled the bags.
Thanksgiving in a Bag benefits UTSA students who are in need of assistance to celebrate this upcoming holiday. Any UTSA student who wishes to take advantage of the free food items can stop by the Whataburger Resource Room, located in the Student Union (SU 1.04.06) at the Main Campus and the Durango Building (DB 1.306) at the Downtown Campus, from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
