Summer camps at UTSA invite students to learn something new

As the school year winds down, summer camp programs at UTSA are ramping up. Dozens of camp opportunities, many of them kicking off in June, are available through UTSA that cater to youth—from kindergarten through high school—as well as young adults.

UTSA camps cover every interest, from science, engineering and architecture to sports, music and writing. The camps offer participants a place to try something new while having fun and spending quality time with the university’s outstanding students, faculty and staff. They also give youth a chance to explore a campus as a way of creating a college-going culture.

Throughout the summer, UTSA will host half-day and full-day camps at both the Main and Downtown Campuses. Some will last a few days while others will extend a week or two. Families can register campers by visiting the UTSA Summer Camp website.

UTSA’s 2022 summer camps include:

Engineering Summer Camp

This exciting and interactive camp is designed for high school students and will enable engineering design and problem-solving approaches using out-of-the box thinking. The camp will have interactive workshops, hands-on challenges, tours, panels and friendly competitions.

Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP)

This academically rigorous mathematics-based summer enrichment program prepares students for advanced studies in STEM. Students learn about problem-solving systems, STEM career awareness, research and study skills, and participate in field trips and special events.

Criminal Justice Summer Camp

This camp runs for two one-week sessions and exposes high school juniors and seniors to the many facets of the criminal justice system. Students will have opportunities to learn the functions of police in society, apply scientific theories to criminal investigations by examining a mock crime scene, meeting with FBI agents and more.

Summer Career Academy in Architecture and Interior Design

The Department of Architecture offers a two-week in-person camp in June and a four-week online camp in July. Both camps will introduce high schoolers, college students and adults to the careers and education of architects and interior designers. Campers will gain hands-on insight from UTSA’s excellent faculty.

Cyber Warriors: A Comprehensive Introduction to Cybersecurity

This camp will introduce students to white-hat hacking and penetration testing. Starting with an introduction of cybersecurity principles, this camp will teach the toolkits and approaches used to compromise and secure vulnerable computer systems and applications.

Archaeology 101 Summer Camp

During this week-long summer camp, children will learn about the principles, ethics and methodologies of archaeology while engaging in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Campers will get a chance to interact with archaeologists and archaeological collections and apply their learned skills to daily life.

Sports Camps
UTSA will host a variety of sports camps for the novice athlete to the aspiring Olympian. Athletes of all ages can choose from baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, football, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball and youth performance camps.

San Antonio Language Academy (SALA)

This camp will offer a three-week summer language immersion program to intermediate to advanced-level Spanish speakers. It will be open to high school juniors and seniors who want to become fluent, build their resumes for college applications and/or have a unique cultural experience.

Summer Art Studios – Southwest School of Art

Summer Art Studios is the most comprehensive and largest summer arts experience for students in San Antonio, offering seven weeks of classes for students ages 5–18. Visit the site to see a full list of classes and program offerings.

Summer Band Institute

This one-week camp offers a comprehensive music experience focused on developing the musician in addition to developing playing techniques. Campers will perform with one of UTSA’s concert bands and attend daily classes that include rehearsals, dival and master classes and an elective class.

UTSA String Project

This camp offers music instruction on string instruments and classical guitar. Intended for beginner through advanced level students, sessions will be offered at both the UTSA Main and UTSA Downtown campuses.

Percussion Camp

Students will be immersed in the exciting world of percussion, developing technique and musicality, improving sight-reading abilities and learning new styles of music. Through interactive master classes, talks, music technology sessions and ensemble experiences, students will learn from UTSA faculty and guest instructors.

UTSA All-State Choir Camp

The UTSA All-State Choir Camp continues to be a leader in the Texas All-State Choir preparatory process for high school students across the state. Outstanding clinicians from prominent Texas high school music programs—along with UTSA’s own superb conductors and faculty—will provide an intensive study of All-State audition music.

Advanced Bharathanatyam Workshop

This is an advanced online workshop in Bharathanatyam, a classical Indian Dance form. The workshop is designed to provide intense training for individuals preparing for graduation, or have graduated in Bharathanayam and wish to continue learning.
