APRIL 20, 2022 — UTSA Giving Day 2022 concludes at 7 p.m. today. All gifts made online before the deadline will count toward the overall total, helping set new records for giving to UTSA.
The effort kicked off at 10:11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, with hundreds of donors showing their pride by supporting a project via the UTSA Giving Day website. The overall goal is 3,000 donors in just 1,969 minutes (32 hours, 49 minutes) from all 50 U.S. states.
“The wonderful thing about UTSA Giving Day is that every gift, every donor makes a direct and significant impact on our students and faculty,” UTSA President Taylor Eighmy said. “I am immensely grateful to see so many people participating and supporting UTSA as we continue our upward trajectory as a university of the future in the city of the future.”
Many gifts are being designated to support student success in the academic units, including the new School of Data Science and Southwest School of Art. There are more than 50 programs participating and gifts of all sizes count.
Leaderboards are tracking results and there are still challenges to be decided. For instance, the program with the most dollars raised receives an additional $5,000, sponsored by long-time UTSA supporters Jan Puckett and John Richardson. The program with the greatest number of donors will earn $5,000, thanks to generous support from April Ancira ’03.
The day concludes with a power hour from 5 to 7 p.m., and the project with the largest number of donors during that time will be awarded an additional $1,000. The program that receives the very last gift will receive an additional $500, thanks to Cavender Cares, the charitable program of the Cavender Auto Group.
An updated total of donors and the leaderboard will also be shared by emcee Ancira during a live broadcast at 6:30 p.m. on the UTSA Alumni Facebook. Tune in to hear a performance by UTSA’s Mariachi Los Paisanos and see the preliminary results.
“It has been fun and heartwarming to see the amount of support on this UTSA Giving Day. Everyone can make a difference for the programs and faculty they care about by making a gift and also by sharing with their friends and classmates via personal outreach or social media,” Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations Karl Miller-Lugo said. “Participation is our number one goal as we strive to set a new record with 3,000 donors for UTSA Giving Day. Every gift up to the last second is a bold statement of belief in UTSA students and the university.”
