AUGUST 15, 2022 — Roadrunner Days returns this fall with a lineup of new and traditional events to welcome students back to campus. The annual celebration takes place over the first couple of weeks—commencing a few days before the start of classes and concluding with the first football game of the 2022 season. The events are designed to connect students to campus resources, create opportunities to meet new people, and introduce students to more UTSA traditions.
Roadrunner Days will take place from August 18 to September 3. Attendees can anticipate that this year’s events will look different from previous semesters, with many of UTSA’s favorite traditions returning to a face-to-face format. Students will find a combination of in-person and virtual event opportunities and are encouraged to register for events using RowdyLink.

Enjoy music, dancing and the colorful spectacle of Midnight Light at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 21.
This fall’s series of programs kicks off with the start of the UTSA soccer season as the Roadrunners challenge Houston Baptist. Over the next two weeks, students can then look forward to various academic success sessions, leadership events, social activities and the continuation of campus favorites, like Midnight Light and Howdy Rowdy Bash.
A highly anticipated fall tradition is Late Night at the Rec, which transforms a typical information session into an exciting night of fun. From 9 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, August 20, students can take part in open-play dodgeball and basketball, dancing and group exercise to a live DJ, inflatable obstacle courses and more. Like several other Roadrunner Days events, students can grab a unique t-shirt to commemorate the evening.
Midnight Light occurs at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 21. This tradition showcases music, dancing, giveaways and fireworks on the night before the first day of classes. Roadrunners have been gathering together yearly since 2014 for this special experience. It is here that students learn the meaning of the monument lights, hear messages of welcome from key individuals and celebrate the new academic year alongside fellow Roadrunners.
Howdy Rowdy Bash will take place from 3 to 11 p.m. on Friday, August 26, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. New to the event will be Rowdy’s Social Hour, a chance for Roadrunners to meet student organizations and participate in a social media challenge for a chance to win giveaway items. Attendees can look forward to a rally with UTSA student-athletes and a concert featuring award-winning indie pop band Echosmith. Tickets are available for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
At Kickback at the Student Union, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, students can enjoy free food and live DJ music, then head to the Roost Game Room for more fun. There will be a photo booth, resource tabling and outdoor games on the Student Union lawn.
Roadrunner Days will close out with the kickoff game of the 2022 UTSA Football season. Students are encouraged to attend the game against the University of Houston at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, at the Alamodome.
Students are encouraged to take part in any or all of these events, which present a perfect opportunity for new and returning students to meet new people, learn about the campus, get involved and enjoy all the ’Runner community has to offer.
