OCTOBER 24, 2022 — UTSA students Ene John-Mark and Jaskarn Mann were named Spirit of the Roadrunner recipients during the UTSA Homecoming halftime show on Saturday, October 22, at the Alamodome.
Sponsored by the UTSA Office of Student Activities and the UTSA Homecoming Committee, the award recognizes UTSA students striving for academic achievement, campus involvement, and community service. The program, formerly known as Mr. and Ms. UTSA, was renamed to reflect the university’s diverse student body.
During Homecoming week, students had the opportunity to vote on who they believed was the best choice for Spirit of the Roadrunner.
John-Mark, a junior biology major, hails from Houston. She is a member of Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority, Inc. and has participated in VOICES, the women’s rugby team, the Vietnamese Student Association, and Circle K.
John-Mark’s Roadrunners are Outstanding and Bold (R.O.B) platform focuses on creating awareness for the resources UTSA has to offer for immigrants and international students. She stated that these resources vary from scholarships to wellness programs and career development. Her goal with this platform is to effectively educate Roadrunners about the resources within their reach to help them walk the path and achieve their desired bold future.
Mann, a sophomore biology major, is also a Houston native. Mann is a LeaderShape graduate and has participated in the Rising Researchers program and the Honors Intentionality and Sustainability Study Abroad program.
Mann’s platform involves initiating a pro-wellness community-led effort known as Pro-Wellness Roadrunner Field Day. During the field day, which will revolve around the tenants of intentionality and sustainability, Roadrunners will participate in various going-green efforts and create new friendships along the way.
John-Mark and Mann will spend the next year working to implement their platforms and representing UTSA at campus and San Antonio community events.
