UTSA graduate programs in engineering, science, education and policy received high rankings according to the 2023-2024 Best Graduate Schools list by U.S. News & World Report.
The rankings, compiled in fall 2022 and early 2023, include survey data across 2,214 programs and from more than 18,000 academics and professionals. As a Tier One research university, UTSA attracts world-class faculty and talented graduate students who are pursuing research and academic studies that shape the future of many different industries.
The Carlos Alvarez College of Business’ part-time M.B.A. program climbed from No. 158 in the 2022-2023 list to No. 109 among the 299 institutions ranked for the 2023-2024 list. This part-time MBA program helps professionals continue their education while accommodating work and family responsibilities. Through its innovative programs, the Alvarez College of Business trains graduate students to acquire critical business knowledge, leadership skills and a strategic mindset that will propel them to the next level of their careers.
The university’s Margie and Bill Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design’s overall rank is No. 142, up from its ranking of No. 152-200. The college also improved from its rank in the 2022-2023 list in its biomedical engineering degree program, going from No. 82 to No. 73, and its civil engineering program went from No. 107 to No. 90 on the 2023-2024 list. The Environmental Design program also ranked in the top 100 programs nationally, coming in at No. 90. The Klesse College serves as an incubator for academic research and inquiry across disparate, yet complimentary, academic fields that work cohesively to identify and solve grand challenges where humanity intersects the physical world.
The College of Education and Human Development held steady this year at No. 125 and was recognized by U.S. News as one of the best graduate schools. UTSA COEHD ranked 2nd among all colleges of education in the UT System.
Additionally, two UTSA colleges saw modest increases in program rankings this year. The College of Sciences’ doctoral program in chemistry climbed from No. 128 to No. 119 and its doctoral program in computer science improved from No. 122 last year to No. 114 this year. The College for Health, Community and Policy’s master’s program in public affairs is now ranked No. 137 over last year’s position at No. 144.

Each year, U.S. News ranks graduate school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing, including specialties in each area. U.S. News uses survey data as well as an examination of admission test scores, student and faculty educational experience and graduates’ achievements to rank institutions.
