Editor’s note: The following message was sent today via email from President Taylor EighmyProvost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Kimberly Andrews Espy, and Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President for Business Affairs  Veronica Salazar to all faculty and staff:

The 88th regular Legislative Session has concluded and we want to share an interim update on Senate Bill 17 (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and Senate Bill 18 (Tenure). We currently anticipate that these bills will be signed into law before June 18, but we may need to wait until the veto period is over before knowing their exact disposition. We will await further guidance from The University of Texas System regarding bill implementation on our existing practices and policies.

In the meantime, please know we are working closely with UT System, have begun initial planning, and will keep you informed on progress. In this vein, we will continue collaborating with University Leadership Council as we anticipate guidance from UT System.

We appreciate your ongoing interest in and support of the work we’re doing to advocate for our campus community. We will continue to share additional information as it becomes available and will soon provide a detailed update about all other relevant aspects of the 88th session.
