Our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming campus environment where all Roadrunners can study, work, and live is resolute, and we take that responsibility very seriously.
In November 2020, I shared the news with you that the U.S. Department of Education Office of the Inspector General (OIG) had conducted an audit of our Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security and Campus Crime Statistics Act between 2015 and 2017. The OIG found that, during that three-year period, the university underreported 55 criminal incidents.
This month, the Department of Education publicly posted notice of the outcome of the matter which, in addition to our corrective steps, included a negotiated settlement of $670,000.
Over the last five years, we have since taken substantial remedial actions and process improvements to ensure ongoing compliance with the Act. I encourage you to read more about these measures and our work with the Department of Education to proactively address the matter.
As we continue to strive for improvement, I want to thank our colleagues who have been instrumental in implementing the programs and initiatives put in place to ensure a campus environment where all students, faculty, staff, and visitors are safe.
