Editor’s note: The following message was sent today via email from President Taylor Eighmy to all veteran and military-affiliated faculty, staff and students at UTSA:
As we observe Veterans Day this weekend, I want to extend my deep gratitude for your service to our country, as well as your contributions to UTSA. It’s a tremendous source of pride for our university that 16% of our students are military-affiliated, and nearly 300 of our faculty and staff have served. The sacrifices you’ve made have not gone unnoticed, and I’m honored to call you members of our Roadrunner family.
UTSA’s military community is important to me, and we’re continually working to grow our support. This year — with the support of Boeing — we’ve started a new tradition for our military-affiliated graduates, the Veteran Graduate Cord Ceremony. We’ve also partnered with the National Veteran Leadership Foundation to develop an Entrepreneurial Military Community Advocate Program in conjunction with our Office of Veteran and Military Affairs and the Alvarez College of Business.
This year, we have a couple of very special events coming up in honor of Veterans Day:
Military Appreciation Football Game and Veterans Tailgate
Saturday, November 11
Come enjoy some free food at the Veterans Tailgate Party outside the Alamodome from noon to 5 p.m. Afterwards, watch our Roadrunners take on Rice in the Military Appreciation Game at 6:30 p.m.
Veterans Resource and Appreciation Fair
Wednesday, November 15
Visit with more than 30 veteran service organizations while enjoying food, winning door prizes and supporting our student veterans at the Veterans Resource and Appreciation Fair. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Convocation Center.
Thank you for your service to our country and to our university. Enjoy your weekend, and Birds Up for a win against Rice!
