When the total solar eclipse covers much of the Alamo City on April 8, most people will stop what they’re doing and look up. But what happens in nature? What happens to the hard-working honeybee who forges in the daylight?
Joining us in the podcast studio this week is Ferhat Ozturk, assistant professor of practice in the UTSA Department of Integrative Biology, who discusses his buzzing research on bee behavior. Using acoustic and visual recording devices, Ozturk and his team will observe how bees behave during the progression of the total solar eclipse, building on research he started during last October’s annular eclipse.

Its Planet UTSA podcast is one of several projects in the Eclipse 2024 initiative, which will include a UTSA Today news series about the impact of the eclipse and a weekly op-ed series featuring faculty experts running in the San Antonio Express-News leading up to the April 8 event.
