MARCH 12, 2024 — Every year, UTSA proudly participates in the City of San Antonio and The César E. Chávez Legacy and Educational Foundation’s César E. Chávez March for Justice, in memory of the civil rights leader. All students, faculty and staff are invited to join the university’s delegation at this year’s march, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23.
UTSA shuttles will provide free transportation for students, faculty and staff, with departures from the Main and Downtown campuses. Marchers may also take advantage of free VIA Park & Ride services, or take their own transportation and meet up with the UTSA group at the start of the march.
More information, including a detailed timeline, maps and registration link, can be found on UTSA’s César E. Chávez March website.
UTSA’s Westside Community Center — located just a few steps away from the march’s starting point — will serve as the meetup location for attendees. UTSA will provide breakfast, refreshments and a historical pop-up display.
The pop-up exhibit will showcase items from the Willie Velásquez Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project in UTSA Libraries’ Special Collections. The exhibit includes prints, photos, posters, and other historic material related to farmworkers unions.
The march traces a route through downtown San Antonio, culminating in a celebration at Hemisfair Park. Roadrunner marchers are encouraged to wear a UTSA shirt or university colors.
