APRIL 9, 2024 — The UTSA community is invited to the Downtown Campus for the 25th annual NiUTSA, UTSA’s kick-off to Fiesta San Antonio. Join fellow Roadrunners today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bill Miller Plaza. Featuring live mariachi performances, food and engaging activities, NiUTSA is a perfect way for UTSA students to get into the Fiesta spirit.
NiUTSA is an event by the Student Involvement Center, which works to create a campus culture of belonging, according to Chantea Swinson-Rhoe, director of the center.
“As a newcomer to San Antonio, this event was my very first introduction to Fiesta,” said Leah Sammon, coordinator of engagement and leadership initiatives, housing and residence life. “Students get to enjoy activities like making flower crowns, free swag and the mariachi performances. As a previous graduate assistant in the Student Involvement Center, I genuinely appreciated NiUTSA as my introduction into Fiesta and Student Involvement.”
“Being able to bring the Fiesta spirit to the downtown campus is an exciting experience,” said Taylor Kelbie, a graduate student in the Student Involvement Center who worked on NiUTSA 2024. “Fiesta embodies the celebration of San Antonio’s diverse cultures, and NiUTSA brings that essence to life here.”
The Student Involvement Center combines student activities, leadership, and volunteer services under one office. By collaborating with such partners as the UTSA Multicultural Student Center, the Student Government Association and Roadrunner Productions, the center creates leadership development, community engagement and campus programs that enhance student success.
Each April, UTSA joins the city in celebrating Fiesta, San Antonio’s party with a purpose. The celebration began 1891 with a parade to honor the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of Jacinto and today is a vibrant citywide celebration that draws thousands to San Antonio.
This year, Fiesta runs from Thursday, April 18 to Sunday, April 28, and will feature a series of parties, parades, concerts and other festivities that raise money for local nonprofits and charitable organizations.
