UTSA campuses to close on January 21 due to inclement weather

JANUARY 17, 2025 — With a strong cold front bringing prolonged freezing temperatures and a wintry mix to the area through at least mid-week, UTSA will delay the start of the spring semester until Wednesday, January 22. All university classes, events, programs and activities scheduled for Tuesday, January 21 are canceled. 

Only those employees designated as having essential job functions supporting campus operations should report to work. All other employees (both telecommuting and in-person) and student workers should adjust to remote work where possible on Tuesday, January 21. Employees with essential job functions should contact their direct supervisor with any scheduling questions.

Additionally: 

  • If you’re planning to march with UTSA’s delegation in the city’s annual MLK March on Monday, January 20, visit this page for ongoing updates about the weather and possible location changes. 
  • The John Peace Library (JPL) will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, January 20 while the Downtown Library will be closed. On Tuesday, January 21, the JPL will open at 9 a.m. and continue its normal 24-hour weekday schedule; the Downtown Library will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. All virtual services will maintain their normally scheduled hours. Libraries hours can be accessed here. 
  • One Stop and Fiscal Services will be available via email and phone at 210-458-8000. 
  • Roadrunner Café will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit the UTSA Dining website for updated location hours. 
  • The Student Union north building, located beside the McKinney Humanities Building, will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with limited staffing. The Student Union south building, (including the food court) and the H-E-B Student Union, will be closed. Event Services will contact individuals whose events require rescheduling.
  • The Runner (Main Campus shuttles) will not operate on Tuesday, January 21. 
  • Wellness 360 (Counseling and Health Clinic) will be open from noon to 5 p.m. with limited staffing.
  • Campus Recreation, the Recreation Field Complex and the Downtown Fitness Center will be closed on Tuesday, January 21. Normal hours will resume on Wednesday.
  • The Rowdy Campus Store will be closed on Tuesday, January 21.
  • The Campus Services and UTSACard office will be closed on Tuesday, with assistance available via email. Staff also will be monitoring voicemail at 210-458-7275. Students who need a new or replacement UTSACard to access campus dining locations are encouraged to download the GET app, which offers a virtual card for dining. 
  • Campus parking garages will continue to be available for permit or hourly parking as usual. Garage cashier stations will be closed; however, Paystations and pay-on-phone options will be available. Please keep in mind that the top levels of the Ximenes Ave. Garage and Bauerle Rd. Garage remain temporarily closed for construction.
  • The Housing Facilities team will remain on-site and on-call to maintain safe walkways, building access and emergency needs for on-campus residents. 
  • The Roadrunner Pantry will be closed. To-go kits will be available at the Main Campus Roadrunner Pantry entrance for individuals in need.
  • The Tech Cafe will provide remote assistance from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Lab Safety & Hazardous Materials Management will operate remotely but will be available to respond to lab-related emergencies.
  • Research administrative procedures, training and specialized research services will be rescheduled. Laboratory Animal Resources Center staff will continue to support on-campus operations.  

UTSA Facilities crews have made preparations for freezing temperatures and the possibility of frozen precipitation, including treating streets and sidewalks. Campus walkways that accumulate ice will be blocked off. Please avoid those areas to prevent injury. The top level of each UTSA parking garage remains blocked off.
