Two UTSA pitchers were selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday. Zach Royse was selected in the seventh round and Braylon Owens was selected in the 10th round.

The Atlanta Braves drafted Royse in the seventh round as the 217th overall pick. He is the second Roadrunner to be drafted by the Braves.

Royse was the 43rd Roadrunner to be selected in the MLB Draft and the 19th UTSA pitcher to be selected in the MLB Draft. The most recent Roadrunner pitcher to be drafted was Simon Miller, who went to the Cincinnati Reds.

The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Owens in the 10th round as the 305th overall pick, making him the 44th Roadrunner to be picked in the MLB Draft and the second UTSA student-athlete to be selected in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Owens is the third Roadrunner to be drafted by the Brewers, joining the likes of Ryan Arevalos, who went in round 30, and Ryan Crew, who went in round 40.

In 2025, the UTSA baseball team had its best season in the history of the program, scoring a record number of runs (530), RBIs (488), on-base percentage (.423), fewest errors (47), fielding percentage (.978), at-bats (2,098) and hit by pitches (125).

Pat Hallmark agreed in June to a contract extension that will keep him as head coach of the Roadrunners through at least the 2029 season.
