The Academic Affairs office recently announced the university has promoted 150 UTSA faculty members.
The promotions become effective on Sept. 1.
“This year’s faculty promotions reflect the depth of talent and dedication across UTSA’s academic community,” said Heather Shipley, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
“Through excellence in teaching, research, creative activity and service, these 150 faculty members are shaping their fields and enriching the educational experience for our students,” she added. “I’m also proud to honor our newly named emeritus faculty, whose enduring contributions have helped build the foundation for our continued growth.”
UTSA’s faculty numbers 1,556, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields and members of the national academies — the highest honor a scholar can achieve in the United States — and other prestigious organizations.
Among the tenured and tenure-track faculty, 27 people were promoted to associate professor with tenure. Faculty earn tenure based on their accomplishments in each of three categories of performance: teaching, research/scholarship/creative activities and service.
