Editor’s Note: This message was sent from the Office of Integration Management to all faculty and staff of UT San Antonio.
On Sept. 1, 2025, UT Health San Antonio and UTSA officially integrated to become UT San Antonio, the third-largest public research university in Texas. This milestone was made possible by the extraordinary effort, collaboration and dedication of our colleagues, students and alumni across both institutions. Together, we are building something stronger. As the two institutions move into a thoughtful integration process, there will be many things that will be new to our faculty, staff and students and many things that will remain the same for the foreseeable future.
What is changing?
- The regental name for our university is The University of Texas at San Antonio. The Health Science Center is now considered a campus of UT San Antonio.
- The name for UTSA shifts to UT San Antonio, except for references to the Athletics brand and many student spirit activities, which will remain UTSA.
- A new look has been unveiled as the parent brand for the newly integrated institution, including a new logo and color palette. This new logo, email signatures, presentation templates, virtual backgrounds, letterhead — and more — are available in our new Brand Toolkit on the Employee Resources page on the UT San Antonio Together page.
- Our new vision, values and impact will be presented to the world.
What is staying the same for both students and employees?
- The name UT Health San Antonio and the “Alamo shield” logo will remain in use by all Health Science Center/UT Health San Antonio schools, departments, units, clinics, centers, institutes, organizations and programs on day one. The 12-18 month brand migration process will begin on Sept. 15 and will include significant stakeholder input as we transition the academic and research programs to the new university identity. New UT San Antonio logos will be developed over the next six months and will be incorporated thoughtfully within each unit as they are finalized. The UT Health San Antonio brand will remain in place for patient care services and related clinical trial activity in patient care settings.
- The UTSA brand and logo, along with the UTSA Roadrunners mascot, Rowdy, will remain in use for the Athletics brand and all athletics events, which may also include some student spirit activities.
- Branded materials currently in circulation—such as promotional items, letterhead and business cards—should be utilized before ordering new items with the updated branding to ensure responsible stewardship of university resources.
- Email addresses and systems access will remain unchanged for now. Stability across platforms is a top priority. All usernames and passwords will remain the same, as will badge and keycard access.
What is staying the same for employees?
Below, the term “legacy” refers to the institution where the employee worked before the merger.
- Benefits, leave balances and payroll will remain unchanged at both institutions.
- Any elected changes you made to your employee benefits during July’s open enrollment will be effective Sept. 1 as planned.
- Employees will follow the holiday schedule for their legacy institution, in coordination with their supervisor.
- Employees may use their current parking permits to park on other campuses within the combined UT San Antonio university. Find parking reciprocity details here.
- Legacy institutional policies, procedures and practices remain intact, unless advised otherwise.
- Employees who begin a new position with either UT Health San Antonio or UTSA will have a benefit plan, email and systems access that aligns with the hiring institution.
What is staying the same for students?
- Program applications during the current application cycle remain the same.
- There are no changes to academic calendars this year. A master calendar will provide an overview, but each program will continue to manage its own calendar, respecting accreditation requirements.
- Tuition and fees will continue to be determined independently by each institution for academic year 2025-2026.
- There will be no changes to graduate student stipends during the 2025–2026 academic year.
- Students may use their current parking permits to park on other campuses within the combined UT San Antonio university. Find parking reciprocity details here.
- Support services, such as financial aid, registrar, bursar, student life and international services will continue to be supported by the legacy institutional offices.
Looking ahead
Future changes will be carefully considered with input from university leadership and campus community members through the appropriate task forces, and updates will be communicated as we reach milestones toward full integration over the next several years.
Thank you for your commitment to building our future together.
