The countdown is on, Roadrunners.

Early voting in the upcoming primary elections starts Feb. 17 and continues through Feb. 27. Election Day is March 3.

To vote in Bexar County, you must be registered by Feb. 2. In the March primary, voters will cast a ballot for candidates from their chosen party running for multiple offices, including U.S. senator, Texas governor and attorney general.

“One of the ways students can best prepare themselves to vote in this election is to visit the Bexar County Elections Department’s website to check their voter registration status,” said Noelani Cubillos-Sanchez, senior program coordinator for the Center for Civic and Community-Engaged Leadership.

Are you eligible to vote?

U.S. citizens who are Texas residents and will be 18 or older by Election Day are eligible to vote in Texas.

Texas state law requires voters to be registered 30 days prior to an election, which is Feb. 2 for the primary elections.

Unsure if you’re registered? Find out your voting status at the Bexar County Elections Department website; click on the “Am I registered?” button.

If you’re not registered to vote in Bexar County, here’s what you need to know:

  1. If you are eligible to vote, register in Bexar County by completing, printing, signing and mailing your voter registration application to the Bexar County Elections office well before the deadline. (Note that U.S. Postal Service postmarks now show the date your mail reaches a regional sorting facility, not the date you dropped it off at your local post office or mailbox. This means the postmark date could be later than the day you mailed it. This may affect any mail that must be “postmarked by” a specific date.)
  2. If you’re already registered to vote in another Texas county, you can plan to travel there to early vote or apply for a mail-in ballot so you can vote by mail in the county where you are registered.

Where can I register to vote?

In the coming days, leading up to Feb. 2, RowdyVOTES Community of Practice partner organizations will be on the UT San Antonio Main Campus to assist students with voter registration.

The Center for Civic and Community-Engaged Leadership leads the university’s voter engagement initiatives in cooperation with the RowdyVOTES Community of Practice, a coalition of university and community partners that support nonpartisan democratic engagement on campus. Through a comprehensive, nonpartisan civic action plan, the center promotes voter registration, education and participation among university students, faculty and staff.

In 2024, the national organization known as ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge named UT San Antonio an ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting.

UT San Antonio was recognized among 471 institutions nationwide for exceptional efforts to boost nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2024 election.
