The University of Texas at San Antonio is committed to ensuring that every member of our community can fully engage with our digital environment.
Recently updated ADA Title II requirements call for public institutions to ensure all digital content meets a new threshold of accessibility standards by April 2026. This includes websites, applications, digital course materials, PDFs, presentations, forms, videos and any other content published or distributed online.
Your role
Every faculty and staff member who creates, manages or shares digital content will need to take steps to review and remediate their content. This means:
- Ensuring documents are properly formatted with headings, meaningful link text and alt text
- Using accessible templates for presentations and digital materials
- Confirming videos include captions and transcripts
- Updating course materials
- Reviewing websites and platforms for barriers
- Participating in training and support opportunities
Accessibility is not the responsibility of a single office or team — it is a shared obligation across our institution.
Why this matters
These ADA requirements ensure that digital content is understandable for people with disabilities and our broader community. These standards support users who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, as well as those with mobility, auditory, cognitive or visual impairments.
Support and next steps
For the academic campus: Over the last year, a committee of professionals from across multiple divisions has been working on strategies to bring our digital assets into compliance. For your reference and use, they have developed step-by-step plans, trainings and tools broken down by the programs and materials that you use every day on the Ready 2026 website.
For the health campus: A project has been launched to implement comprehensive accessibility tools in Canvas. These tools will assist faculty in creating and upgrading course content to meet standards. UT Health staff are encouraged to make use of resources on the Ready 2026 site in developing accessible documents and digital content. Health campus-related questions may be directed to [email protected].
