For William Di Filippo, BBA ’91, EMBA ’11, UT San Antonio has played a defining role in both his career and his commitment to giving back and creating opportunity for others.

Di Filippo earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the Carlos Alvarez College of Business in 1991 before beginning his career in public accounting. In 1992, he joined Frost Bank, where he remains today as a senior vice president, leading the Management Accounting department.

He began his career focused on product and customer profitability, working with data long before modern systems made it seamless. Over time, his role evolved alongside the industry, expanding into enterprise reporting, analytics and data-driven decision-making. Today, he manages reporting applications used across the organization to support budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis.

“My role has always been about helping management understand what’s really driving performance,” Di Filippo said. “It’s not just the numbers. It’s the story behind them and what that means for the organization.”

Years after graduating, Di Filippo returned to UT San Antonio to pursue an Executive MBA, completing the program in 2011.

“I went back to school to sharpen my skills, meet new people and step outside of my comfort zone,” he said. “That program came at exactly the right time for me. It re-centered me, gave me confidence and helped me think more critically and holistically.”

Through the UT San Antonio Executive MBA program, professionals like Di Filippo gain the tools to think more strategically, lead with confidence and approach complex challenges with a broader perspective. For him, that growth showed up gradually in how he approached his work and leadership.

“It’s not something that changes overnight,” he said. “But I became a stronger leader, more confident in how I approached challenges and more thoughtful in how I made decisions. Over time, that led to greater responsibility.”

After completing the program, Di Filippo stayed closely connected to the university. He served two terms on the Alumni Association Board and later as board president from 2018 to 2020. He has also attended Roadrunner football games since the program’s inception. Through that involvement, he has seen UT San Antonio continue to grow, including its recent integration with UT Health San Antonio and its expanding role in the region.

“Education is the cornerstone of individual success,” Di Filippo said. “UT San Antonio plays an important role in this city, and I’ve enjoyed seeing the university grow and evolve over the years. Its integration with UT Health San Antonio only strengthens that. It’s an economic driver and a catalyst for growth, and it continues to make San Antonio a better place to live.”

That connection ultimately shaped his decision to give back in a meaningful way. Di Filippo recently chose to include the university in his estate plans, with the goal of supporting students who return to pursue a second degree. His vision is to create scholarship or endowment support for those seeking growth, clarity and a fresh perspective. His planned gift will help expand access for those looking to continue their education and advance their careers.

“Going back to UT San Antonio came at the right time for me,” he said. “It gave me a different perspective on my work and on myself. That experience has stayed with me, and I want to help create that same opportunity for someone else who’s ready to take the next step.”
