UT San Antonio has established the Institutional Faculty Advisory Body (IFAB), a representative faculty advisory group that brings together faculty voices from the unified university’s academic colleges and health professional schools.
“Our faculty are at the heart of our academic mission, and their expertise and perspectives are essential as we continue building one UT San Antonio,” said Provost and Senior Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Shipley. “The Institutional Faculty Advisory Body creates meaningful opportunities for collaboration across our academic colleges and health schools, helping ensure faculty voices inform institutional priorities and strengthen our university for the future.”
The IFAB was developed through a working group convened by the Academic, Student, and Faculty Affairs Task Force, established to oversee the integration of academic, student, and faculty programs and services between the academic and health campuses. The effort supports UT San Antonio’s continued integration as a comprehensive research university by creating a unified forum for faculty perspectives, feedback and recommendations that align with UT System Regents’ Rules and state requirements.
Appointed by the university president and administratively supported by Academic Affairs, the IFAB includes 36 faculty members representing every academic college and every health professional school, ensuring broad participation across disciplines and faculty ranks. The body includes tenured/tenure-track faculty members and fixed-term track faculty members from each academic college and health school, along with 10 at-large members evenly divided between the academic and health campuses.
The IFAB is supported by four working groups, which focus on key areas of institutional importance: research and scholarly activities, curriculum, graduate education and faculty affairs. An additional 56 faculty members from across the institution have been appointed to these working groups, and each is chaired by an IFAB member.
