The UTSA Roadrunners will host the Colorado State Rams in the university’s annual Hispanic Heritage Game on Saturday, Sept. 26. UTSA’s final non-conference clash of the season will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Alamodome and will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
The Roadrunners are 2-1 through three games against opponents from the Lone Star State. UTSA kicked off the season with a resounding 45-16 home victory over UTRGV — a game in which the Roadrunners racked up 527 total yards of offense. UTSA followed up that win with a thrilling comeback victory over rivals Texas State in San Marcos the following Saturday. Running back Brandon High Jr. rumbled for a 25-yard touchdown with 15 seconds left on the clock to seal UTSA’s 31-26 triumph over the Bobcats.
UTSA suffered its first defeat last Saturday to No. 1 Texas, but took away several positives from the showdown in Austin. The Roadrunner defense held the top-ranked Longhorns to a season-low 172 passing yards and frustrated the Texas offense for much of the game.
The Roadrunners are hoping to keep the momentum going against a Colorado State team that’s been on a similar trajectory this season. The Rams are also 2-1 heading into their final non-conference contest. Colorado State scored wins over Border War rivals Wyoming and Southern Utah before falling to No. 9 BYU last Saturday. The Rams are in their first season under head coach Jim Mora, whose career spans from the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks of the NFL to UCLA and UConn in the college football ranks.
This is the fourth all-time meeting between the Roadrunners and the Rams. Colorado State won the first two matchups in 2015 and 2016, but UTSA defeated the Rams in a 17-16 nail-biter in Fort Collins last season that’s best remembered for running back Robert Henry Jr. breaking away from Colorado State defenders for two long, crucial touchdowns.
This year, the two teams will face off at the Alamodome, where UTSA has been tough to beat under head coach Jeff Traylor. The Roadrunners boast a 34-5 record in home games dating back to Traylor’s first season in 2020, and have won 22 of their last 25 home contests. Those 34 home wins are tied for the most among current American Conference teams and FBS teams from the state of Texas during that span.
Saturday’s festivities should bring a large crowd to the Alamodome. Beyond cheering on the Roadrunners, fans flock to the Hispanic Heritage Game each year for the vibrant celebrations and unique gameday atmosphere. The Spirit of San Antonio marching band will provide a special Hispanic Heritage tribute performance during halftime with featured guests Mariachi Los Paisanos and Ballet Folklorico San Antonio. The football team will also be wearing Hispanic Heritage helmets to honor San Antonio’s colorful culture and the first 15,000 fans through the doors will receive Hispanic Heritage-themed thundersticks.
Additionally, a ring ceremony and celebration will be held for the UTSA women’s basketball team, which won the 2026 American Conference Tournament championship earlier this year. Roadrunner fans should stay in their seats at halftime to celebrate the team and staff as they’re presented with their championship rings.
