MAY 12, 2023 — Scholars and researchers from around the world who are working on interconnected technologies are gathering for Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet-of-Things (CPS-IoT) Week from May 9 to 12, a series of conferences, workshops and competitions that explore the exciting possibilities of hybrid systems for agriculture, health care, manufacturing and other fields.
The Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII), led by UTSA, is one of the major sponsors of this week-long forum.
“As the premier event on Cyber-Physical System and Internet-of-Things, CPS-IoT Week 2023 brings together five top-tier, international conferences with multiple workshops, tutorials and competitions,” said Dakai Zhu, professor and assistant chair for the UTSA Department of Computer Science and graduate advisor of record for the College of Sciences. “Event attendees can benefit from the visionary talks of the three well-known keynote speakers and also learn about state-of-the-art research results in CPS and IoT related areas from technical presentations, panels, posters and demos.”

The three keynote speakers are:
- Janos Sztipanovits, E. Bronson Ingram Distinguished Professor of Engineering, Institute for Software Integrated Systems, Vanderbilt University;
- John A. Stankovic, BP America Professor, University of Virginia and director of the Link Lab;
- Mani Srivastava, professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering, UCLA.
UTSA President Taylor Eighmy will provide remarks today.
“This discussion could also inspire novel research directions and foster collaboration among researchers from worldwide,” added Zhu, who is serving as the event’s general co-chair.
Five conferences will be held during CPS-IoT Week, including the 26th ACM International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control and the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things Design and Implementation.
CPS-IoT Week began with the F1TENTH Autonomous Racing, a live autonomous race car competition. Teams of scholars built and programmed their cars to compete on a track with various properties and obstacles.
Throughout the week, researchers will explore how to design and improve smart technologies. Presenters will discuss, among a variety of topics, how these new technologies might improve treatment for Parkinson’s disease, make autonomous vehicles safer and enable space farming. They will also present researching on how to make the Internet of Things more secure and sustainable.
A team of UTSA faculty worked together to produce the conference in San Antonio, including Zhu, Sara Ahmed, Electrical & Computer Engineering; Raymond Choo, Information Systems and Electrical and Computer Engineering; Jeff Prevost, Electrical and Computer Engineering; Mimi Xie, College of Science; and Wei Wang, Computer Science.
