(June 15, 2017) — The UTSA Alumni Association hosts its inaugural Roadrunner Weekend featuring the Roadrunner Golf Classic Scramble on Friday, June 16, 2017, and the Alumni Gala & After Party on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa.
The UTSA Alumni Association is celebrating 40 years of providing scholarships, services and programs to students through the continued support of UTSA alumni.
“We have been fortunate to award $150,000 in scholarships each year thanks to the generosity of UTSA alumni,” said Jana Kennelly assistant vice president for alumni engagement and executive director of UTSA Alumni Association.
On Friday, the weekend kicks off with the Roadrunner Golf Classic Scramble. Lunch will be served at noon, tee time begins at 1:30 p.m. and the event wraps up with an awards presentation.
On Saturday, Roadrunner Weekend continues with the Alumni Gala & After Party featuring the band, The Spazmatics.
“If you are familiar with the local band scene in San Antonio, then you know the Spazmatics will get everyone on the dance floor with the best of the ‘80s music,” said Nancy Ozuna ’93, UTSA Gala chair and alumni board member.
A special addition to this year’s Gala will be an expanded art auction of local and regional artists’ work.
“UTSA believes in supporting area artists and has an extensive campus art collection that the entire San Antonio community can enjoy,” said Arturo Infante Almeida, the UTSA Art Collection curator. “Being able to promote local and regional artists while supporting the Alumni Scholarship Fund is what makes this event so special.”
Another Gala highlight will be honoring the Alumni of the Year, Janice Meyr ’79 and Distinguished Service Award recipient, Dr. Patricia Graham.
“We could not have picked two better people who have been long time champions for the Alumni Association,” said Mike Klein ’81 ’99, UTSA Alumni Board President.
Proceeds from all UTSA Alumni Association events benefit an endowment that has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships to UTSA students.
