In the university’s debut as a combined institution in the 2026-2027 U.S. News and World Report Best Global Universities report, UT San Antonio now ranks in the top 13%, placing 296 out of 2,250 institutions worldwide. UT San Antonio’s research enterprise is recognized as a globally competitive leader in clinical and academic research, innovation and impact.
“With this new distinction of the unified UT San Antonio, the university is gaining global recognition for advancing discovery that expands human knowledge to make lives better — across our region, our state, our country and the world,” said UT San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy. “As a model public research university with an academic health center, we are creating a powerful convergence of disciplines, combining our strengths in engineering and technology with those in our clinical enterprise to accelerate discovery and deliver real-world impact at scale.”
Across 17 additional subject ratings in the U.S. News report, UT San Antonio distinguished itself through research excellence in Surgery, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Clinical Medicine and Oncology while achieving strong global standing in Electrical Engineering, Space Science and Computer Science.
These subject matter scores were calibrated separately based on several factors including academic research performance, number of publications and citations along with global and regional reputation in that subject.
