Provost and Senior Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Shipley today announced the appointment of Rob Tillyer as interim dean for the College for Health, Community and Policy, effective July 1.
A professor of criminology and criminal justice, Tillyer has served as the college’s associate dean for student success since 2024, after previously serving as associate dean of graduate student success from 2020 to 2024.
“Dr. Tillyer brings to this role a deep commitment to student success, rigorous inquiry and meaningful community engagement — qualities that are central to the mission of the College for Health, Community and Policy,” Shipley said. “His experience and collaborative approach as a teacher, researcher and academic leader make him especially well prepared to guide the college during this important transition.”
Tillyer joined UT San Antonio in 2008 after earning a PhD in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. His research focuses on decision-making in the criminal justice system, and he regularly works with police departments and other agencies to implement and evaluate evidence-based practices to help reduce crime and improve public safety.
The College for Health, Community and Policy is UT San Antonio’s largest college, serving more than 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students across eight areas: criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work, and sociology and demography.
