The University of Texas at San Antonio is committed to preparing students for success by connecting classroom learning with real-world experience. Through hands-on opportunities, Roadrunners develop the skills and confidence needed to lead in their future careers.
For multidisciplinary studies major Ellianna Feeney, those opportunities have come to life through high-impact community events and internships that translate directly to her career goals in hospitality and events management.
“I chose UT San Antonio because I didn’t just want to study hospitality in theory — I wanted to learn in the middle of a city where major events, tourism and culture are happening in real time every single day,” Feeney said.
As part of her coursework, Feeney has worked behind the scenes at events such as the 2025 NCAA Men’s Final Four basketball tournament and the UT San Antonio Diploma Dash. These experiences have allowed her to take on meaningful responsibilities, from coordinating logistics to supporting event execution, all while building critical leadership skills.
Feeney also landed an internship with the Embassy Suites San Antonio Landmark Hotel, where she had the opportunity to rotate through each department and gain an inside look at hotel operations.
“As the sixth-largest city in the U.S., San Antonio gives our students a unique opportunity to learn by doing while networking with current industry professionals,” said Jonathan Gutierrez, assistant professor of practice and undergraduate advisor of record for the hospitality and events management program in University College. “There’s no shortage of events here, and being directly involved in that work helps students understand the pace and expectations of the industry in a real way.”
