UT San Antonio marked a major milestone as the university welcomed students to The Continental, an apartment-style housing community in the heart of downtown San Antonio that expands opportunities for students to live, learn and connect in the university’s growing downtown community.
Located within the renovated historic Continental Hotel building at 322 W. Commerce St., The Continental by UT San Antonio is designed to support students whose academic programs are based downtown while providing a distinctive urban living experience. The location, which is just steps from the university’s San Pedro I and II, accommodates approximately 50 students and places them within walking distance of classrooms, research spaces, internships and community partners.
“The opening of The Continental represents much more than a new place to live,” said Mary Hernandez, senior vice president for administration and operations. “It creates opportunities for students to thrive academically, build meaningful connections and fully engage with the remarkable experiences available in downtown San Antonio. By bringing students closer to classrooms, internships, research opportunities and community partners, we are helping them build a strong foundation for success.”
Designed for student success
Living at The Continental ensures students can take advantage of the university’s many resources while fully enjoying the energy of downtown San Antonio. The apartment-style model provides students with flexibility and independence with housing options that include single- and double-occupancy layouts featuring private bathrooms, kitchenettes, in-unit washers and dryers, Wi-Fi and utilities.
The apartments at The Continental are reserved exclusively for UT San Antonio students and offer safety features and resources that include controlled building access, the Safezone mobile app, campus safety escorts and enhanced services through the university’s partnership with Centro San Antonio.
Transportation options, including The Little Runner and VIA, provide students with connections to other university locations and destinations throughout the city.
In support of the ongoing downtown growth, the university also partners with College Pads, an off-campus housing marketplace that connects students with housing options near university locations.
Supporting future growth
The Continental is one part of the university’s broader approach to supporting students downtown. Looking ahead, UT San Antonio will continue to explore future housing expansion, aligning with the long-term vision to increase student residential options.
