(Aug. 14, 2017) — More than 4,000 Roadrunners will converge at the Main Campus on Friday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 19 to begin moving into their new homes for the upcoming academic year.
For many of these students, UTSA’s Residence Hall Move-In marks an important milestone: It’s the first time they’ll be living away from home.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, the parking lots adjacent to Chaparral Village, Laurel Village and Carlos and Malú Alvarez Hall will be filled with UTSA students, their family members and their friends as they cart clothes, furniture and other treasures from home into their residences. On average, 72 percent of the UTSA students moving in this weekend will be freshmen.
In all, about 2,300 students will live in one of UTSA’s three residence halls. The remaining on-campus residents will live in either Chisholm Hall or University Oaks, which are located on the Main Campus and managed independently.
Throughout the summer, UTSA staff have been hard at work getting the university, and especially its residence halls, ready for the Roadrunners to return. New and returning residents can expect top-tier living facilities with fully trained staff and resident assistants ready to help them have an excellent year.
During the move-in weekend, hundreds of UTSA student, staff and faculty volunteers will be on hand to help residents unload the comforts of home into their new accommodations.
UTSA Housing and Residence Life, which manages UTSA residence facilities, is encouraging the use of the free Guidebook app (available for download here) to help residents navigate move-in weekend when they arrive on campus.
In addition, students can share photos of their move-in experiences with the UTSA community by tagging @UTSA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and by using #UTSA and #UTSARRDays, which is also being used for the rest of the Roadrunner Days events that week.
UTSA Residence Hall Move-In is the first event of UTSA Roadrunner Days, a seven-day celebration that kicks off of the new academic year for the UTSA community. The UTSA celebration welcomes students to the university and gives them the opportunity to take part in time-honored UTSA traditions.
From 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 18, UTSA will host a reception for transfer students at the Main Building Ground Floor Lobby.
Later that evening, from 7 to 9 p.m., UTSA Admissions will host the Welcome Back Reception at the University Center Paseo for students and their families. The event will feature a free photo booth, food and refreshments, a DJ and a live performance by the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band.
