UPDATE: Aug. 20 • 4:45 p.m.

Editor’s Note: The following information was sent to all students by UT San Antonio Academic Affairs.

University Technology Solutions (UTS) is beginning the student passphrase reset process as we continue bringing systems online, including student email and access to university systems and services. Because passphrase resets rely on multiple interconnected systems and external services, including mobile carriers and personal email providers, resets will occur in phases to manage volume. This approach is designed to provide a smoother experience, reduce wait times and help students regain access as efficiently as possible.

Students should reset their passphrase only during or after their designated time window, based on the first letter of their last name.

The reset schedule is being phased by groups of last-name letters to help manage the number of students resetting their passphrases at one time. The groups are not in alphabetical order, so please check the schedule carefully to find the time assigned to you.

You may also view the student passphrase reset schedule here and instructions: Passphrase Portal

Following your assigned reset window will help make the process as smooth and efficient as possible for everyone. To save time and avoid unnecessary delays, please wait until your designated reset window before attempting to reset your passphrase. Once your assigned window begins, you may reset your passphrase at any time after that.

UPDATE: Aug. 18 • 4:45 p.m.

Editor’s Note: The following message was sent to the UT San Antonio academic campus community by President Taylor Eighmy.

As we prepare to welcome our students and faculty for a new academic year, I am writing to share an important update about delaying the start of the fall semester.

UT San Antonio will delay the start of fall classes to Monday, August 24.

We are making this decision to ensure the university systems, technology and services our students, faculty and staff rely upon are operating optimally as we begin the semester. Starting classes on Monday gives our teams the necessary time to restore services carefully and position our university community for a strong start.

As previously shared, the university responded to attempted unauthorized activity of technology systems. Out of an abundance of caution, we proactively took systems and services offline to evaluate our technology environment and reinforce safeguards before bringing services back online.

Restoring these systems, including connectivity, email and other essential services, is a careful and deliberate process. Delaying the first day of classes to Monday provides the time needed to ensure these services are fully operational for a strong start to the semester. University operations will continue as scheduled, with faculty and staff maintaining normal work schedules to ensure our students have access to the services and support they need.

Detailed information about the revised academic schedule, student services and other important updates will be available on the university’s website. We will continue to communicate directly with our university community as services are restored.

To our new students, welcome to the Roadrunner family. To our returning students, welcome back. Student success, opportunity and excellence are at the heart of UT San Antonio, and those commitments are guiding our decision.

We look forward to beginning the fall semester together on Monday and giving every Roadrunner a strong start to the academic year.

UPDATE: Aug. 18 • 8:30 a.m.

The password reset system is experiencing delays. Additional updates will be provided soon. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: Aug. 17 • 12:30 p.m.

To help ensure students have the time they need following the recent technology disruption, we have several important updates for Fall 2026:

  • Payment Deadline: The deadline has been extended to Friday, August 21 at 5 p.m. CT, providing additional time for students to submit payments and for payments to be processed.
  • Waitlisting: Waitlisting will end Wednesday, August 19 at 8 a.m. CT. Students who received a waitlist notification to register on Friday, August 14 or Saturday, August 15 are automatically being re-added to the waitlist in the original order. Students will receive an email notification when a seat becomes available and they can register.
  • Registration: Registration remains open. Once you are able to access your myUTSA Account, you can continue to make updates to your Fall 2026 schedule.

We understand how important access to these services is as you prepare for the fall semester. These adjustments are intended to give you additional time and flexibility while university technology services are restored.

Please note our phone systems are currently not available. The phone service is expected to be restored later today as technology services return to operation.

One Stop is here to support you and will continue to provide updates as additional services become available.

Editor’s Note: The following message was sent to the UT San Antonio academic campus community by Andrea Marks, Senior Executive Vice President of Enterprise Operations and Strategy and Chief Operating Officer and Michael Schnabel, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO).

UT San Antonio has responded to attempted unauthorized activity against university technology systems that was identified over the weekend and impacted only our academic campus. The activity was detected at the edge of our network, before it reached core systems and University Technology Solutions (UTS), working with expert partners, took immediate action to contain it and protect the campus’ entire technology environment.

Our response has been effective. At this time, our ongoing investigation has found no evidence that university data was accessed or exfiltrated as a result of this activity.

As part of our ongoing response, we have proactively taken some systems and services offline so our teams can thoroughly evaluate the environment, reinforce safeguards and ensure appropriate protections are in place before returning services to normal operations. These precautionary measures have resulted in temporary disruptions for some members of our university community but are important steps in protecting our systems and information in real time.

With classes beginning this Wednesday, we recognize how important, reliable access to university systems and services is for our students, faculty and staff. Our teams are working with great care to ensure that our technology environment is both available and secure as we begin the new academic year.

We are especially grateful to our UTS professionals and expert partners who continue to work around the clock to protect our university community and technology environment. Their vigilance, expertise and commitment are instrumental to our ongoing response.

We will continue to provide further updates to the university community as systems return to normal operations, including clear guidance about any additional actions required of faculty, staff or students.
