MAY 11, 2021 — UTSA is marking a return to some sense of normalcy this weekend as in-person Commencement ceremonies will be held for the first time at the university since 2019.
There are 5,306 graduating students eligible for the spring 2021 ceremonies taking place this weekend and an additional 7,739 graduates of the spring 2020 and fall 2020 classes eligible for their own ceremonies the following weekend. The Roadrunner community will be able to celebrate all 13,000-plus graduates throughout the month of May and at the increasingly popular Commencement Drive.
This spring’s commencement ceremonies will be college-based and held at various locations on Main Campus. While the ceremonies will look different than in previous years, they retain many of the traditional celebratory aspects to rightfully honor UTSA’s graduating students.
To promote the safety of UTSA’s graduates and volunteer organizers, the university is limiting Commencement ceremony guests to two individuals per graduate. However, UTSA will continue to host a virtual celebration for all graduates, including those who do not wish to participate in in-person ceremonies. These online ceremonies will be livestreamed for real-time viewing by family and friends, with links available on the Commencement website starting the day of the ceremony.
All 2020 graduates must RSVP via RowdyLink to participate in their ceremonies, and select the time in which they can attend.
Roadrunners and their families and friends are encouraged to share their Commencement experience on social media using the hashtags #UTSA and #UTSAGrad21.
The following is a schedule of Commencement events being held at UTSA over the next two weekends:
COMMENCEMENT DRIVE
The Commencement Drive will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 14. Graduates of the 2021 and 2020 classes and their family and friends are welcome to join in the fun of this nostalgic parade around Main Campus. Those participating are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, wear their regalia, and honk their horns to celebrate their achievement with the Roadrunner community.
Vehicles will begin gathering at the Brackenridge 5 parking lot at 5 p.m. before the parade begins its procession through the campus at 5:30 p.m. Make plenty of noise and share your videos on social media using #UTSAGrad21 for a chance to be featured on UTSA’s channels.
